Working with Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence refers to a person's ability to understand their own emotions and those of others, and to act appropriately using these emotions.
Research suggests that a person's emotional intelligence (EQ) might be a greater predictor of success than his or her intellectual intelligence (IQ), despite an assumption that people with high IQs will naturally accomplish more in life.
EQ is concerned with understanding ourselves and how we relate to others, how we adapt or cope with the immediate surroundings to be more successful in dealing with environmental demands. EQ is tactical (relates to immediate functioning), while cognitive intelligence is strategic (relates to long-term capacity). EQ helps to predict success because it reflects how a person applies knowledge to the immediate situation. In a way, to measure EQ is to measure one's "common sense" and ability to get along with the world.
Combining traditional coaching methods with EQ helps individuals to clearly see where they are, where they want to go, and how they can get there. EQ is a scientifically validated process that results in positive, lasting change. Combining this with the breakthroughs gained from traditional coaching approaches increases the impact and longevity of each coaching outcome.
